Huge crowd for Obama in Berlin, Why?

A crowd estimated at 200,000 people jammed into Tiergarten park in Berlin thursday, 50,000 or so American reporters I imagine, to hear what senator Obama had to say. Why did so many Germans come to see senator Obama? Could it have been to hear what he had to say about repairing the relationship between the United States and Europe, I know that sounds exciting but really 200,000 people? I wonder if the free concert performed by Raemmon and Patrice before Obama's speech had anything to do with the size of the crowd? Raemmon is a German rock band well known all over Europe and Patrice is a reggae star. This is just a guess but I'm willing to bet there was some beer at this event also, now I'm no Obama supporter but I may have showed up for that "speech". Would anyone like to bet on which network will report this free concert just as it is always reported that Cheney and Bush were speaking in front of a friendly crowd, i.e. the military or the NRA or "Big Oil". I'm pretty sure we won't hear anything about Obama's "friendly crowd" on the networks.
